24/09/2020 - Lecture 'The elusive intensity ingredient of the “exercise pill” : what’s new? '

Guest speaker: Prof. Silvia Pogliaghi (Department of Neurosciences, Biomedicine and Movement Sciences, University of Verona)

Organiser: Department of Movement and Sport Sciences

Exercise prescription guidelines provide a comprehensive framework to understand the importance of exercise to maintain/improve health and function throughout life along with qualitative and quantitative elements for appropriate exercise prescription towards desired outcomes in specific populations. While the practical implementation of Frequency, Type and Time is straightforward, the Intensity ingredient of the “exercise pill” remains challenging, to the detriment of our understanding of the dose-response relationship of training interventions.

In this lecture, prof. Silvia Pogliaghi will provide an updated, research-informed framework on the concept of exercise intensity, reinforce why this is important in the context of exercise prescription and provide up-to date strategies for the correct implementation and monitoring the intensity ingredient of the “exercise pill”.
